Dr. Pompi Paul is one of the best upcoming Dancers in the field of Odissi Dance.
She is a senior disciple of Guru Poushali Mukherjee. Pompi started her training in Kathak Dance at the young age of four under Guru Runu Bhattachrya in Jalpaiguri. She took up the study of Odissi Dance under Guru Poushali Mukherjee since 2002.
She represents the Guru Kelucharan Mahapatra style of Odissi Dance and has performed at several major dance festivals in India and Countries like Poland, Bangladesh and UK Bhutan over last 10 years.
She received several awards and titles like Sringar Mani, Odissi Joti, Padmavati Pratibha Puraskar, Sundari Samrat Prativa Puraskar etc. In 2012 she has selected as one of the 10 best Odissi Dancers in the world by Samskritiki in the 4 th Odissi International Festival at Bhubaneswar, India. She also received the National Scholarship in Odissi Dance under her Guru Poushali Mukherjee from Ministry of India Culture, Govt. of India. Pompi has done her Masters in Dance under Guru Muralidhar Majhi and completed her PhD in dance under Dr. Sruti Bandopadhay from Rabindra Bharati Universiti. She also worked as a Guest Lecturer for seven years in the Department of Dance of the universary. Presently she is working as an Odissi Dance Teacher at Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, Bali.
Pompi represents the new generation of modern Odissi Dance with interest in refining the grammar, idiom and repertoire of Odissi yet integrating aspects of Indian Performing Arts that have been unexplored by the previous generation of dancers.
